π Announcing the Winner of the EarthViews Mapping Giveaway! π
βThis project would help people see the river from a different perspective and be invested in its health. When more people are aware of and concerned about an issue, they are more likely to want to make a difference.β – Emily Oyos
Weβre thrilled to support a powerful new initiative to map the Big Sioux River β a 420-mile waterway winding through the heart of eastern South Dakota.
With no existing in-river maps, it’s been a challenge to identify areas in need of restoration, protection, or public access. Thatβs about to change.
Through immersive 360Β° virtual mapping, this project will:
π Reveal problem areas hidden from aerial view
π± Identify sections needing riparian buffer strips in agricultural regions
ποΈ Locate urban hotspots for streambank erosion and trash accumulation
πΆ Highlight canoe/kayak launch points
π§ Showcase water quality testing data
We’re proud to provide this mapping technology to help local leaders, scientists, and community members see the river in a new way β and take action.
π Stay tuned as the Big Sioux River comes to life on EarthViews in the months ahead!
